About Me

I love wine. No, really – I love wine! White wine, red wine, rosé, ice wine, port, all wines. Now, some better than others, but you get the point. I have a problem and don’t know any other way to fix it than to feed it. My doctor and sometimes my wife would appreciate a different approach but…….

In 2008, I began penning a wine newsletter, sending it out bi-weekly to some of my best friends, folks I kind of know, and people that I’ve never met. I started Duff’s Wines as the organic continuation of this work in 2012. Like the term ‘organic’? Not sure what it exactly means in this context but it sounded cool.

Let’s just say, you have arrived to a rambling treatise on the value of fine wine – bargains, splurges, and other tips. I am not intending to de-mystify wine. Wine is mysterious and, I think it’s best appreciated if a bit so. I don’t want to dumb down wine. What I want is simply to make wine easy to enjoy and discuss with like-minded wine hounds. I strive for the humorous (I break me up) and will never include the words – austere, unctuous or even graphite. I mostly talk about wine that we can all afford, or should splurge for once in awhile.

There will be rants and raves, and I’ll wander into related pursuits from time to time including music, dining out, and travel when it’s appropriate (in my mind, that is).

Hope you enjoy and please, don’t be shy! Really, I love your emails and comments. Did I say, I’m lonely (just kidding!), probably still in my housecoat (well, okay that maybe true), and trying to vacu vin a bottle of ’82 Chateau LaFite Rothschild at 10:00 am (OK, I did mention a wine that none of us can afford to impress – but that’s the last time).

Duffs Wines is researched and penned by Bill Dufton with a lot of help from his friends. Any resemblance to a professional wine expert is unintended and completely fraudulent.

Thanks. Just wandered through your blog and will follow. It’s real, great tone. Nice work. My knowledge of Riesling needs a boost and I can see that you’re into it. Will help me with that wonderful and misunderstood grape.

I am looking forward to reading more about your thoughts on the wine you drink and having some wine related conversations!

Thanks for the comment and follow. Just checked your site and liked the information on a bottle by bottle basis. Fear it might me look like I have a problem if I did the same. I have found it difficult to find similar blogs using the WordPress search options so getting comments and likes has been the best source fr like minded writers.

Love your line; Any resemblance to a professional wine expert is unintended and completely fraudulent.LOL. Made my night and a little jealous I can’t use it.
    Thank you!

Hi Bill, Fantastic!, I know that you’re a wine guy, but this is really impressive. Look forward to following you and learning more.

Thanks Tony. It’s been fun but a load of work requiring discipline. Whoops, I don’t have a lot of that. Keep following and I hope that I can help with your wine buying.

I’m trying to figure out how to put together a wine event in the Providence area, for my wine-blogging friends. Do you have any ideas?

    • Duff's Wines November 13, 2014 at 6:10 pm #

Not sure. Ive dealt with the people at Bottles on Pitman. Really engaging and interested in supporting the wine community. They might assist. If I lived around there I’d participate.

Bill! It’s been a while since we’ve heard from you. Hopefully you’re just enjoying the peace and quiet at the cottage this summer, and drinking lots of wine without the pressure of having to write about it after. I know the feeling!
Anyway, just thought I’d stop by and say I missed reading you lately. Hope all is well.

    • Duff's Wines August 31, 2018 at 12:44 pm #

Thanks for noticing. I’ve been taking some time off, less time on-line and more time being present. Trying to understand if I miss it. I kind of do. Heading to Spain to reconnect with some wine folks there. That may get me going. Once again, thanks.

I totally get where you’re coming from. Hope the experience is fulfilling.
        Buen viaje!
